Tanryoku Dublin
Tanryoku Dublin is a dojo dedicated to the practice of Iaido, a traditional Japanese martial art focused on precision, awareness, and self-discipline.
Tanryoku Dublin is member of Kendo na hÉireann, the Irish Kendo Federation.
Through this affiliation, the dojo is connected to wider governing bodies including the Irish Martial Arts Commission (IMAC) and the European Kendo Federation (EKF), ensuring high standards of practice, instruction, and international recognition.
Name
The name Tanryoku (胆力) refers to mental fortitude and courage. The ability to remain composed and focused under pressure. These qualities are developed gradually through regular practice, both on and off the dojo floor.
Etiquette
Etiquette in the dojo (Reihō) is not about strictness for its own sake, but about safety, mutual respect, and maintaining a focused training environment. New students are guided through these expectations gradually.
The following points outline general expectations during practice:
- Training attire should be clean and properly worn. Jewellery and watches should not be worn during practice for safety.
- If arriving late, students should wait at the edge of the training floor and enter only when invited, so as not to interrupt the practice of others.
- When practising with a partner, techniques should be performed with control and care, prioritising safety at all times.
- These guidelines represent the basic principles of dojo etiquette. Reihō (礼法) is not a set of rigid rules, but a means of cultivating correct attitude in training.
