Beginners Course in Iaido
Would you like to learn how to use a Japanese sword?
Tanryoku Dublin offers a structured beginner’s course for those new to Iaido. The course provides a clear introduction to fundamental techniques, dojo etiquette, and the principles that underpin correct practice.
No prior martial arts experience is required. The course is suitable for adults seeking a disciplined and focused form of training conducted in a respectful dojo environment.
We will provide any equipment for the duration of the course. This includes a bokutō (wooden sword) with its saya (scabbard), and an obi (belt), and knee pads.
As for clothing, you may practise in comfortable clothes or any sportswear. If you already own suitable equipment like a Hamaka and a gi, let us know, and we will advise you.

Topics covered include:
- Fundamental posture and movement
- Basic sword handling and safety
- Core dojo etiquette and conduct (reihō)
- Introductory Kata from the ZNKR
Training is delivered at a measured pace, allowing students to develop correct habits and understanding.
